7th August 2026 Hiking - Walking: Around Felixstowe Wind Direction: Wind Stength: Surf / Sea State: Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: sunny and hot Max Speed: Distance Covered: Friday 7th August - walks **** – Around Felixstowe – sunny and hot. Walk 1 – Sunrise at Felixstowe Ferry. With sunrise now around 5.30 I decided to drive down to Felixstowe Ferry this morning to catch it as I haven’t seen one for months now! I parked near the chapel and walked over to the River Deben just past the Martello tower as the sun rises over by Bawdsey beach at the moment arriving by the water at 5.10 with the sky a nice red. I spent a pleasant and peaceful 40 minutes walking up and down as the sun made an appearance above a small bank of cloud and didn’t see another human being :) I did get a cracker of a small splashing wave with the sun behind which proved popular on Stunning Suffolk on Facebook but sadly not on the telly weather! Two other highlights, a flock of curlews over the golf course and a kestrel flying off with its breakfast in its feet! Walk 2 – Picnic and walk from The Dip in Felixstowe with Maeva :) After sorting out this morning’s sunrise pics Mag and I had breakfast in the back garden leaving me enough time to do my exercises and pack a picnic for three as its Maeva Friday before she arrived at 11.10. After fun at home we got in the van and drove down to our little windsurfing car park at the Dip for 12.35 just in time to see an old yacht sail past in a pleasant onshore breeze! The picnic went down really well and we spent ages in the van watching the world go by with Maeva ending up colouring. Then it was walk time with her ladyship in the buggy as we set off towards the golf course, the temperature was really nice not being overly hot but with enough breeze for a solo kitesurfer to have fun! Maeva is not keen on the beach as she doesn’t like sand in her shoes but the little shingle bar looked so inviting with loads of people enjoying the beach and taking a dip so I put Maeva on my shoulders and walked over, we even got her to have a paddle and all ended up with wet shoes, it was lovely and Maeva was not too bad, we enjoyed collecting pebbles to paint before setting back, we actually then walked to the end of the prom enjoying watching people having fun on the beach, children and dogs were having a great time! Then it was back to the van and head for home when we noticed a paraglilder having a fantastic time soaring the cliffs along Brackenbury green so we stopped for a closer look, I walked over with my camera and found out it was Ben one of my son Robs kitesurfing mates who landed for a chat, Maeva even ran over to watch the action, I was then chuffed to get one of my paraglilding pics on BBC’s Look East :) Home for a cuppa and snacks with the usual Peppa Pig before taking maeva home, yet another fantastic Maeva Friday:) Photo Album here |
